Merry Christmas from the ER

Marcus had planned such a delicious Christmas Eve dinner filled with prime rib, corn and shrimp chowder and broccoli salad. I could hardly wait to spend the day with family listening to Christmas music and playing games.

All that changed at about 10pm on December 22 when I got extremely sick. Some type of stomach virus took me by storm and after a sleepless, sickening night, Marcus finally took me to the ER at 9am. By this time, the virus had also struck him and he was just as sick as me. When we checked into the ER, they were ready to admit both of us but Marcus was trying to be brave and let them tend to me.

After a couple hours, they admit me because my calcium and potassium levels were so low from being sick all night. I was so scared that me being sick would affect the baby in some way so I was thankful that they were going to keep me overnight to monitor the baby and I.

Christmas eve morning rolled around and began swelling very badly. They weren't sure what was causing it so I would need more tests ran which meant another night in the hospital. :(

So Marcus goes home to get ready for another night in the hospital. To my surprise, he comes back with Christmas decorations and our santa hats. So sweet!

6pm rolls around and we are flipping through the hospital tv for Christmas movies. When who to our surprise walks in the room but my wonderful OB. He said he was sitting at home wondering how I was doing and if my levels were back up. After an hour of him checking all the test results, he released me to go home under strict eating and drinking restrictions.

We couldn't believe it! I would get to spend Christmas Eve in my own bed. We still wouldn't be able to spend Christmas day with our family but we were so thankful that we were able to spend the day together cuddled on the couch. Dr. Sudela was our Christmas miracle.

Our first doctor's visit

I could hardly contain my excitement after finding out we were pregnant. I couldn't wait to meet with our doctor so on my break from work I called and quickly scheduled a visit with my doctor for later that week.
We arrived at our appointment at 3:00 and were so excited to find out when we're due and have the official "Yes, your pregnant" talk. Well, 5:15 rolls by and we are STILL sitting in the waiting room. I'm almost in tears at this point. I was so full of excitement and now was having to sit there for over 2 hours to see the doctor. With no end in sight, and the office staff leaving, I asked for a refund of my co-pay and informed the remaining staff that we would NOT be returning. Although I was very upset and felt robbed of our exciting day, it lead me to find the BEST doctor ever! I met with them less than a week later and found out we were 7 weeks 5 days pregnant.

Here's the 1st picture of our little butterfly at 7 weeks.

The day our life changed forever

We had been officially trying to conceive for only 2 months after having surgery 8 months prior to remove precancerous cells on my cervix. We were scared at the thought of never being able to have children and were told if we were going to try, to hurry up and get to it. So we did!

Well, the 1st week of June, I tell hubby that I think I'm pregnant. So we go to the store and get a 2 pack of tests. I take the first one that night and sure enough, it's positive. He still wasn't convinced so he tells me to wait until the next morning.

The night seemed to take FOREVER! The next morning, I jump up and excitedly take the 2nd test. Positive! Needless to say, we were shocked and excited to be expecting our little one so quickly!

Here's a picture of me right after we found out we were expecting. How appropriate that I was sitting on a butterfly bench!
